Light in the Darkness

I had breakfast with an amazing lady yesterday morning.  I had many amazing people that helped me and Gordon the night of the accident, but I'll write about the one that I have met so far.  Heidi did not see the accident happen, but she saw us in the ditch and slowed down to see if we needed help.  In doing so, someone else that was in a hurry tried to pass her and ran into her vehicle.  It was totalled.  She could not get out of her door, so she went out the passenger side and came up to my van.  When she came up, there was a man on the phone to 911 checking for Gordon's pulse and I was back there holding his hand.  The person that ran into her stayed around for a while, but Heidi, lost all thought of her misfortune and was so focused on helping me that she didn't even get the person's information before they left.  I guess I was standing in the ditch shivering after the paramedics got there.  I had put my coat over Gordon.  She grabbed a coat and gloves, put them on me, and put me in her car to stay warm.  She made lots of phone calls for me to let my family know what was going on.  Then she shielded my view when she thought it would be something that would be hard for me to see like when they were moving Gordon.  I didn't know who she was and would have still never known if Matthew didn't recognize her at the funeral.  Heidi and another lady that came over to help were at the funeral.  They were planning on coming and slipping out unseen.  But Matthew told them I would like to see them.  I had no idea that she was even in an accident herself until the police told us when they brought our stuff to us after the funeral.  Lots of stuff had fallen out of my van in the impact.  She was a teacher when Matthew went through school and taught three of Matthew's siblings.  Now she is a principal of an inner city kind of school.  She said that teachers are given reports to fill out regularly and asked what they are willing to do.  She wrote that she would do anything they needed her to do, which apparently no one does, so when a principal gave their notice at the end of a school year, she was asked to do this job.  She said she often stops when she sees someone in the ditch or if she sees someone in trouble to see if she can help.  She says people are good, and she just likes to help if she can.  I was truly amazed by this lady and aspire to have more of this Christlike attitude.  On a night of such darkness, she gave me light.  When I could not take care of myself, she took care of me.  She wouldn't even allow me to pay for the breakfast with a gift card I had been given, she paid for it.
